So you already know I bust a hole in the only jeans that fit and I'm not exactly happy with the weight/shape I am right now. So when I went to get dressed for a TEDx meeting I was a bit frustrated. It was actually a really nice evening so I couldn't throw on leggings and a dress so I pulled out this Old Navy Maxi Dress.
The dress is a tube top and strapless bras do NOT work on me so I threw this jean jacket on over the top to cover my bra straps! I've had this jean jacket since the summer before I went to University. I got it at an outlet mall in Georgia in 1998 and something tells me I should probably buy a new jean jacket.
Over the past almost 15 years every time I go to buy one I think "Oh hey I have that jean jacket already and I don't really wear one that often" but really I should suck it up and buy a new one already. Regardless it did the job on this occasion and hopefully it wasn't painfully obvious it was purchased around the same time Wyclef was telling us all he was going to be "Gone 'Til November." Man I freaking loved that song. Anyway I digress....

What is the oldest article of clothing you have that you still wear? Do I need to throw the jacket out already or am I not the only one who has held on to something so long?

Looks great! Love the dress with the denim jacket. I just picked up a jacket so I can wear this look too.

I have a long leather jacket with a fur collar and I will never give it up. I've had it for at least 10 years and it still looks like new.
Thanks for hosting!
I have a leather jacket that I've owned for 10 years - it's long with a fur collar and I'll be buried with it.
That is a cute outfit, I hear you about the strapless bras. I have old clothes too that I still wear some of them are 15 years old.
so with you on the strapless bras! I've stopped buying cute strapless things and even thought about adding straps so I don't have to miss out
So glad jean jackets are back in! I love mine and am so glad I can cover up straps galore :)
I don't have a pair of jean jacket and this just tells me I need to get one for myself. Well, if that jacket still works and don't have any tears or holes, I guess it is still fine. And about old clothes, I don't have that old of a clothing anymore because when I moved to the USA from the Philippines, I left a lot of my clothes and bought new ones when I got here in the USA. It was six years ago. You look good though! :)
I actually have a jean jacket circa 1999 that I still wear and keep for everytime denim comes back around! and I don't do tube tops either, but that dress looks great on you. You starting WW? (saw your tweet)
LOVE old jean jackets - are you kidding me? They are the BEST! I never throw them out, and such a classic cut like ours will NEVER go out of style! Looks great on you!

I love the denim jacket and maxi dress look!
i say keep it, heck its practically vintage and people pay good money for 90's denim lol! plus it looks great on you. i am a complete hoarder so have lots of old stuff hanging about. I have a jumper that has been with me since i was16 (nearly 12 yrs eek) i dont wear it much but i cant bare to throw it out! xxx
I always tell my clients -if it's great quality, great fit, and you still feel great in it, KEEP IT!!! Go, Girl!!! ~Sarah
Love the maxi dress!! The jacket still looks great!
I have the habit of getting rid of things too quickly (I hate clutter and clean things out often) so that I regret getting rid of something...I'm trying to stop, but it's hard! :) I love the jean jacket. Old Navy has one very similiar right now that I'll probably end up buying soon.
Maxi dress + denim jacket is one of my favorite looks. I've been looking every where for one! I definitely want to find one in the next two weeks...before I go to Scotland.

Oh how I wish I would have hung on to my jean jackets!

You're definitely not the only one! There are clothes in my closet that I've had for years. And denim jackets are classic, and this one still looks great! I say keep it but also get one in a darker wash, for variety. :)
I love the jean jacket!
Definitely not just you! In fact, my jean jacket is ancient too. I bought it from Benetton when I was pregnant with my teen so it must be getting on for about fifteen years old now! A jean jacket is just an absolute classic though and actually looks better with age I think. Gorgeous outfit :-)
I still have a brown striped top I bought with birthday money in 7th grade, so I guess that makes it almost 20 years old! Yikes! I don't wear it that often, but I just can't get rid of it.
How cute! Does a denim jacket ever go out of style? I don't think so. I have 2 from the mid 90s and a pair of shoes from the early 90s that I refuse to part with (even though they're butt ugly and uncomfortable, the shoes not the jackets).
I have a vintage blazer I bought at the Pasadena Flea market when I was in college. So 15 years is nothing to me. Some of my most favorite pieces of clothing are old. So long as they are in good shape, why not? Besides I take a certain amount of pride in holding onto a piece of clothing (or pair of shoes) for so long that it comes back into fashion.
Sometimes you just can't go wrong with a denim jacket and maxi dress. It's one of my favorite combinations because it's so effortless and easy, but polished and classic. So pretty! Thanks for hosting another wonderful link-up.

As I was trying to say earlier (though my phone wouldn't let me) you look great! I have the same issue with strapless tops/dresses. They don't work well with my big boobs!! I have to go down the "cover the straps" route as well... xx
Strapless bras are just a joke. I might as well go braless lol.
I'm trying REALLY hard to shop my own closet!
I guess there is vintage but then is 1998 vintage? Not *really*?
I have so many random things from college and I have no idea why I keep them!
OMG! I'm impressed you can still fit in a top from the 7th grade!
Aww thanks. I'm glad I'm not the only one :)
Thanks Annee :)
I think my issue is that I RARELY wear a denim jacket b/c I hate a denim jacket with jeans and except when I bust a hole in them I ALWAYS wear jeans!
Did they not make the closet cut?
Good luck! We can have a denim-off ;)
See I'm the exact opposite and I hang on to things too long!
Yea but I have WAY too much stuff! Most of it doesn't fit :-/
I have a serious clothes hoarding problem!
I think this was the last week before the weather turns that I could pull it off!
I know but I HOARD clothes lol.
I'm starting to do WW hardcore again. I'm drinking a Jillian Michaels weight loss water thingy as I type!
I moved to Scotland 8 years ago and I didn't bring a lot but somehow now I still have tons!
Did denim ever really go out of fashion?
My wedding dress was strapless but I had a full body bra to hold the girls up lol.
Love it!
Fun!
Oh.. I agree.. except I just can't bring myself to do it! I even wear a (wire free) bra at night...
Oh going braless is not an option. 34F and no bra would NOT be pretty!
Snap! 32F... On the odd occasion I do risk going braless at night, I always end up with boobs wedged in my armpits. Uncomfortable!!
Valid point! :)
love the dress and thats totally what i do with my denim jacket! denim jackets are the best!!!
CUTE dress! And a jean jacket is classic and timeless!!
Love your combo. I still have my denim jacket from when I was a teenager. I think it's great to keep hold of classic pieces. My friend recently gave me a fake fur jacket that she had when she was in her teens. So I think it's now 25 years old perhaps. It's fab and is definitely a timeless piece. Looking forward to wearing it this winter :-)
Didn't manage to link up this past week but I did want to tell you how much I loved that outfit! You looked great!! And I am the same way about my jean jacket. I have no idea how long I have had it, but since I hardly ever wear it, I can't talk myself into a new one. Even a colored one, because I am afraid I will never wear it!
I loved that track too! Loved it a lot!
I have a jean jacket, and although not as old as yours it is a good 10 years old. It's actually a little too small now, but who wears them done up anyway....

So glad it's not just me :)
Oh wow! See I think over 20 years is vintage but if it was my own I don't know if it is lol...
Thanks Janae!
They are great for layering!
