What I Wore Wednesday: Swallow Baby Doll Dress

I'm starting to get into the groove at work and I'm trying my best not to wear the same things over and over again but  I've had to return the past two different shipments of clothes I bought online because they didn't quite fit right. To be fair one dress did fit but it had short sleeves with horizontal stripes going all the way from arm to arm across my chest and I looked like a linebacker!  So I'm doing my best to shop my closet and mix and match what I do have already while shopping the sales for new finds.

This dress is borderline too short for work but since it was still chilly last week I paired it with leggings and a cropped blazer to try and business it up a little bit. I didn't have any external meetings so really I was just at a desk all day so I didn't need to impress anyone. NotBlondeHusband and I have been working opposite shifts so the bathroom selfie makes another appearance!

I've been experimenting with hot rollers and honestly it's been hit or miss. All I want to do is make it so the ends of my hair flick up and are sort of curled. I'd normally do this with a blow-dryer and round brush but I don't want to wake the boys up in the morning. So I try curling my hair with hot rollers at night and hoping for the best the next morning. It's not foolproof or even slightly predictable!

In my head I think a really big barrelled, rotation, hot brush tong thingie would work but I have no idea if such a thing exists? I've also heard that sleep-in rollers might give volume and shape. Has anyone tried those? They sound good but I'm having flashbacks to the bright pink foam rollers my Mom put in my hair when I was little that gave me a huge, long Diana Ross-esque fro which is lovely on her but not necessarily so nice on a pale, blonde girl. Anyone who has any over-night styling or quick styling secrets I'd love to hear them!

Also if you're feeling lucky my 5th Blogoversary £100 Giftcard Giveaway is open worldwide!

  2. Glad you've finally got some warm weather! I love the swallow print dress.

As for hair; I've tried the overnight headband curls once but think my hair needed to be longer. Some of the other bloggers that I've seen do tutorials on it have got really pretty results. My only solution is to tie it up all the time - quick and foolproof :)

  5. Hair suggestions: I know it's not the same as big curls, but you could try braiding damp hair before bed...it'll give just a little bit of wave if you make the braids big. Or you can try a sock bun overnight. I haven't tried sleeping in one yet, but I know after just wearing it for the day I get big, voluminous curls when I take it down. I look forward to seeing whatever solution winds up working for you! :)

  6. Love the outfit :) Ive had the sleep-in rollers that are all the rage atm - they do give great volume and curls but I just cannot sleep in them! I found them really uncomfortable. I would borrow some off a friend to try first - wish I had and saved £15! xoxo

  7. Comfortable yet really stylish. This is the kind of thing I would wear. I have a couple of dresses which I used to wear with tights, but I can't now as they are borderline too short so I weat them with leggings. x

  10. You look so stylish! I just got some hot rollers a few weeks ago. I haven't really used them yet, since I'm kind of nervous about how it will turn out. =) Thanks for the linkup!

  11. I am horrible at fixing my hair. Most days - it's just washed and go. I recently discovered sock bun and wear my hair in a bun on days I don't wash my hair. Great job of shopping in your closet - I need to do that a lot more as well!

  12. There are so many cute dresses out there that are just too short for me so I just wear them over pants. Think I am bringing back that trend single-handedly. Your dress is super cute. Love the print.

  13. Adding the leggings was a good idea to still be able to wear the dress. :-)

  17. Such a cute dress! It really suits you. Never experimented with the rollers - I think it might end in disaster. While it has been hot, I haven't been blow-drying my hair (just left it to dry naturally) and it looks very shinny and healthy (thank you sunshine!). x

  24. The dress and leggings look really good on you - I love this combo. I think Babyliss may do a big rotating hot-air brush type thingy. I used to have something like that (but not rotating) and it was great for drying my hair with a bit more shape and volume! In fact now that I consider it, I want to buy something like that too!
I hope you're enjoying the wonderful summer weather now present in Glasgow! x

  27. My hair never holds curl for very long -- even when I use hot rollers immediately before leaving, my hair is basically straight again in 2-3 hours. If you're just wanting the ends to be a bit curled, though, would a curling iron in the morning work? I do think the big-barreled tong thing you're talking about exists, but I am not sure where to get one. I think sleeping in curlers would be a huge pain, though!
