Four Christmases

Last night I went and saw the movie "Four Christmases" with my friend Deb and my mother-in-law. While I wouldn't ask for my money back, I wouldn't recommend it as a must see. If you see it on DVD in a few months, then go for it.

It is fairly predictable and while I love me some Vince Vaughn (Brad), he and Reese Witherspoon (Kate) have absolutely NO chemistry. There are lots of rumors going around about how much they hate each other in real life, well it definitely shows. Vaughn is pretty funny, but some things just don't make sense.

Both of their families have thick southern accents, yet they live in San Francisco. Okay so maybe they moved, but both sets of parents and their siblings partners have an accent, too. It just irked me. Tim McGraw plays one of Brad's brothers and I had no idea until I saw the credits. It was a very odd cameo. Dwight Yoakam was in it as well, so there must be a country music connection somewhere. Kristin Chenoweth plays Kate's sister and I love her, but she was under utilized and could have been any actress. Sue from "Swingers" is there, too as Brad's Mom's boyfriend, but he looks old and fat which makes me sad.

I did laugh and I had a good night, but I won't be buying this when it's out on DVD to put into my night-time DVD rotation even though I love the sound of Vince Vaughn's voice.

I went into this expecting very little but ended up really enjoying it.

I liked the movie but I agree about the weird southern accents and country music stars!

I plan on waiting until it comes out on DVD. I just think Vince Vaughn needs to branch out and do something totally different. He's been playing the same character for years. It's funny, but he needs a change!

oh no! I wanted to go see this over the weekend... maybe the Changeling instead?

It's not intesely horrible. I didn't get up and leave (which I've only ever wanted to do once, during "8mm") it just wasn't what I wanted I guess.

The total lack of chemistry between them really irked me, but my MIL and friend both really liked it.

If it was a term paper it would be a C+, because it does what you think it should, just not in the best possible way and missing a few quotations...ugh I'm hating this analogy and I'm not even done with it.

I'd still see it over Changeling, but I've only ever seen the Homewrecker in one film and it was part of a double feature at the drive in so I had no choice.

I can't decide if I want to see this or not. I opted for Australia last weekend and am happy I did! Hugh Jackman is a god!

I just saw your comment regarding 8mm. Is that the one with Nic Cage? My friends made fun of that movie so much!

Yup, where Cage is investigation a snuff film. To make it worse the guy I saw it with wanted it to be a date and it totally wasn't. Don't try to mack on me while people are getting porno style. Joaquin Phoenix was quite creepy in it if I remember...
