What I Wore Wednesday: Manicures and Pedicures

Last week I got a text from my Mother in Law saying she'd just read my bump update and that based off my update from 2009 she owed me a pedicure! Not one to turn down a pedi I took her up on her offer and officially made the 28 week pregnancy pedicure a thing!

We went to Revival Retreat on Byres Road in Glasgow where I'd not been before but they have proper spa pedicure thrones (not common here) and we got the works. It was very relaxing and if I'm honest I don't think I can comfortably reach my toes now myself! Obviously y'all know I'm digging on neon this summer so I immediately was drawn to OPI's neon collection. I try to get colours in a salon that I don't have at home so I chose You're So Outta Lime.

Neon Green Pedicure

Ignore my fat pregnant feet (see I told you I like Old Navy flip flops) but isn't it a fun shade of green? I was slightly worried it would look like I have a fungus or something but I think it is bright, fun and super summery!

I asked a few of my fellow Scottish bloggers to share some of their summer manicures so you aren't just starting at my swollen tootsies!  First up is Lori, also known as Glasgow Beauty Blogger, who got this fab hosiery inspired Calgel manicure from Swoon Nails in Glasgow.

Next up I had an amazing selection to choose from since Forever Yours, Betty loves to experiment with nail art but since we'll be getting 250 new emjoiis in the next few weeks (is anyone else excited or is it just me?) I had to go with this Emoji manicure by Nancy Mc in London.

Finally I'm in love with Amanda's, who blogs at Honey Pop, white and glitter manicure. I'm a sucker for glitter and I love how it's subtle in this reverse French manicure with an added statement nail.

What I Wore Wednesday: Nail Art

One of the things I've gotten back into fashion-wise since starting back in an office is painting my nails. I'm not sure why but plain nails just bum me out and I've convinced myself manicured nails are more professional some how. Sometimes I just go for a plain manicure but I've been getting more and more adventurous with trying out nail art.

I'm nowhere near good enough to try anything too crazy but I have been mixing it up and stepping out of my statement nail or glitter top coat comfort zone.  To be fair there is still a lot of glitter and a plethora of statement nails but I'm trying a few different things, too!

Black French manicure

I went to HM to buy something and saw a black nail art pen in that "impulse buy" bin while I was waiting to pay---you know what I mean where everything is just cheap enough that you HAVE to have it? It took three of us probably about 10x each before we figured out how to open up the stupid pen but I was pretty happy at my first attempt at a funky French manicure.

Silver Glitter Nail Stripe

I really wanted to try using masking tape to do some nail art but I'm lazy so I only did it on one nail. I'm actually pretty pleased with how this turned out even if it is a statement nail, nail art hybrid. Masking tape isn't really ideal for nail art though so I'll need to find something else that works better.

Gold Caviar Manicure

Finally I did a caviar manicure statement nail. Again I'm lazy and one nail alone on each hand was hassle enough. I like the idea of a caviar manicure but like I mentioned it wasn't easy and the beads chipped off the edge of my nail overnight and by 3pm the next day I'd picked the rest off. I'm also just not really sure about this colour either.

Have you ever tried nail art? What is your favourite colour or design to wear?

What I Wore Wednesday: Accessories

I could tell you my view on accessories was shaped by Coco Chanel's comment "Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and remove one accessory" but if I'm being honest it's shaped from "too many accessories clutter an outfit" from Troop Beverly Hills. Maybe it's not as chic but those girls ditching their badges is what I always think of when adding accessories to any outfit. Then I start doing the Freddie and sing Cookie Time but I digress.

I've been trying to make the most of the clothes I already have rather then buy a new wardrobe for work. I'm not 100% happy with the size I am so buying new clothes isn't at the top of my agenda. So instead I'm trying accessorize what I have to create different looks and to add to the dresses and skirts I already have.

I'm a sucker for bright colours and funky prints so while these aren't exactly work wear I am absolutely in love with my new rainbow socks from Primark. I'm one of those people who can't wear white socks at least I assume I'm one of those people maybe I'm the only one!

I was cleaning out my wallet the other night and I found a credit voucher for New Look--score!--and then popped in store to find they had a massive sale on--double score! I'd seen a similar ribbon necklace in a magazine a while back so I had to get this gorgeous rainbow ribbon necklace since it was technically free thanks to my found credit note! I don't normally wear gold but I like how it works with all the different colours.

I'm not sure nails are normally classed as an accessory but I think that nail polish certainly can accessorize with an outfit. I've been pretty religious about painting my nails since I've gone back to work in an office and I've had a lot of fun experimenting with different designs and colours. This Maybelline Color Show Nails Polka Dot topcoat over reminds me of jawbreakers candy and it won me some NailGirls polish on twitter in their nail art competition!

What is your favourite way to accessorize? Do you consider nails an accessory? Do you still quote lines for eighties movies?

What I Wore Wednesday: Versace for HM

Last Thursday I was lucky enough to win a Twitter competition and skip the queue for the unveiling of the new Versace for H and M collection! (ed note: I know it is not H and M, but I can't get an ampersand to work for some reason!) I got to go in early and shop before anyone else hit the store. The same rules still applied: I could only shop for 10 minutes and only one of each item.

I went in with only two items in mind and came out with five items from the Versace collection. I had planned a fashion show for y'all but well life took over so lucky for me Polyvore stepped in! So here is how I *would* have worn them if I actually got chance!

I'm still unsure about a few items and have until tomorrow to return them so please be honest about what you think! I'm also keen to hear alternate styling options, too!

Shellac Manicure- The Beauty Store, Glasgow

It's no secret I love a good beauty treatment and I especially love getting my nails done. You've seen me rave about my favourite Glasgow salon before and tonight I was treated to a Shellac manicure by the lovely people at The Beauty Store in Glasgow. Shellac manicures are a sort of hybrid of nail polish and gel nails where you get the best of both worlds.  The Shellac goes on like nail polish but lasts up to two weeks like gel and known of the downfalls of gel such as thick coats or nail damage.

There were over a dozen colours too choose from but I went for one of the newest colour a sort of charcoal grey. I'm loving grey this season and have convinced myself it is the new black. How fab are they? It was dry immediately as well so no chance for me to smudge them!

Blondie Boy was fascinated by them when I came home and kept holding my hands and pushing on my nails. I think he thought he could take the colour off if he tried hard enough. He also learned to say "grey" which was so cute!

The Beauty Store has a whole range of beauty treatments and they've give you the chance to try them all at a reduced rate! Transatlantic Blonde readers will get 10% off their first treatment with the special code "Blonde10" until the 31st of October; just print out the image to the right and take it with you! What will you try?

They are also offering a free paraffin hand treatment with 3 Shellac manicures as a loyalty bonus! They also have a fabulous loyalty card system where you get a stamp for every £10 spent and after 16 stamps you get £10 off your next treatment!

Shellac manicures are £18 before the 10% discount-one of the cheapest in Glasgow!
