Debenhams Summer Soiree

Summer in Glasgow this year is particularly disappointing; I think we've literally had ONE day of summer. It's been grey, rainy and just dreary. Luckily Debenhams brought all of summers best beauty and swimwear trends to Gusto Glasgow to give us that summer feeling. I mean it IS July after all!

One of my favourite finds was Barebaroque jewellery tattoos. Tattoo bracelets are so on trend for summer festivals but I'd never seen metallic and neon jewellery tattoos like this. They have the requisite delicate, metallic single strand tattoos or bigger statement pieces like the metallic and neon Aztec band I went for.

The tattoos are super easy to put on just like you would any traditional temporary tattoos and they last 3-5 days. The sheets of multiple designs are only £6 so you can mix, match and stack the jewellery tattoos for a night out or if you are like me to run to brighten up your Starbucks run on a rainy day!

Keeping on the summer festival trend Lorraine Wood Flowers taught us how to make amazing, real floral crowns. Lorraine is known for her innovate wedding flowers but also runs workshops. I miserably failed but luckily Lorraine stepped in to save my crown!

While we all noshed on Gusto's yummy bites and sipped summer cocktails, we also got to see Debenhams summer swimwear. Neon colours, frills and details were all big. 

Swimwear is one of the hardest things for me to find--finding a suit that supports and is cute is damn near impossible. If it supports the girls it looks matronly and if it's cute, it doesn't fit up top. Luckily Debenhams has me covered with Floozie by Frost French suit that not only supports with underwire and a halter neck, but has all the delicate details on trend this summer. Plus it has skulls and y'all know I'm a sucker for skulls.

What I Wore Wednesday: Summer Pops of Colour

I'm a big fan of bright colours and one of my favourite things about summer is being able to wear pops of colour. So I thought this week I'd share my favourite colourful things I am loving so far this summer.

Neon Friendship Bracelets- Bijou Brigitte

I always like to try and get something when we are on vacation and since I'm only rocking maternity clothes these days I knew it would be accessories this trip. I really wanted a set of brightly coloured neon bracelets so I knew what to keep my eye out for when NotBlondeHusband and I had a wee wander in Perpignan. I found these bracelets, which are all connected with one clasp, at Bijou Brigitte (where I got the braided bead bracelet I wore to BritMums last year).

I love the different textures of friendship bracelet- braided thread, leather and metal and especially the bright colours! It brightens up my wrist and makes me smile and really what more can you ask for from an accessory?

Woppin' Watermelon Chubby Stick-Clinique

I try not to get sucked into "freebies" you get with magazines but this one sucked me in and I'm so glad it did! I really struggle to find lip colours that match my complexion but don't look strange to me since I have dark-ish lips. I got this Clinique Chubby Stick for free with Glamour magazine which I only paid £2 for at the store. Clinique's cult chubby sticks retail for £17!  I love that you can layer on as much or as little colour as you like to get a perfect shade that blends into a colour that suits you.

Most pink lip colours look strange to me since I'm used to seeing darker lips but this is absolutely perfect. It is probably a wee bit light to wear outside of the summer months but I don't care and for £2 I will totally get a fair use out of it!

Old Navy Flipflops

When I go home to Ohio I always go to Old Navy. I only wear Old Navy jeans (if you are hourglass get the Sweetheart, they'll change your life) and once every year or so I get new flipflops. First they are ridiculously cheap--I think at most they only ever cost you £2.50 and they come in lots of colours.  I bought light purple and fuchsia this year but have had baby blue, dark purple and green in the past (they are probably in my closet who am I kidding). 

We don't get tons of flip flop weather in Scotland but the very second I can get away with wearing them I do. Also being pregnant my feet aren't the biggest fans of shoes so I will be wearing them whenever it isn't raining. Again the bright colours make me happy and means my feet don't get sore on my commute, too!

Things I "learned" on Holiday

-I can live without regular internet, but I don't want to live without regular internet access. I like not being on the laptop but I missed talking to my friends and family and knowing what's going on in the world. There has to be a happy medium between too much and none.


-I don't really like wine. Sure it tastes nice sometimes but I'm never going to be that person who tweets about how they can't wait to get home to a glass of wine or who sniffs corks and all that. 


-When it's toddler skull versus adult face, face will always lose. A headbutt to the nose (which left me vaguely concussed) left my nose swollen for two days and then Blondie Boy tripped on NBH and landed noggin first on my cheekbone. Cheek is just now starting to be less tender. I can only foresee more child inflicted injuries in the future since the two of us are both accident prone and he's a wild ass.


-I not as much of a fat ass as I think I am. I'm not skinny but I'm not as big as I think I am in my head.

-I've got an amazing husband. I still can't believe he found sunglasses for my birthday based on me saying I tried on awesome "diamanté Karen Millen shades" at Manchester airport. He got the EXACT ones I wanted and that's just the tip of his awesomeness.


-It must be so frustrating to be Blondie Boy and only have some words and signs to communicate what he is thinking. My French is appalling and while I could ask for baguettes and pastries at the boulangerie and ask if something had egg in it, that was about it. It was really frustrating knowing that I couldn't communicate exactly what I wanted to say.


-I really want to move some place someday with proper summers. When I lived in the US I always wanted to live somewhere with an outdoor pool; I used to sneak into the apartment complex next to mine and layout at their pool. Having our own pool at the villa just reignited my desire to have a pool and to do so we are going to have to move some place warmer. I was a major pool rat growing up and Blondie Boy loves the water as well. Indoor pools are nice, but nothing beats swimming in the sunshine.

-I've got amazing inlaws. NotBlondeHusband and I were able to spend time in the pool together as my mother-in-law would take Blondie Boy when he'd had enough and dry/shower/dress him. Having BB's Grandma, Auntie Katie and John around to help play with or sit in the house while he slept was amazing. I can't imagine what a vacation just the three of us would have been like.
