What I Wore Wednesday: Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

This week was NotBlondeHusband's 33rd birthday. I made him a Malted Chocolate Buttercream Devil's Food Cake with Marshmallow Filling and then gave him a present that I don't think anyone was really expecting; if I'm honest not even me: twin haircuts.

Toddler Boy Haircut
Father and Son Haircuts

What a difference 4-5 inches makes huh? I loved Blondie Boy's long hair but it just wasn't practical any more. It was always in his eyes (I don't like boys with bangs/fringe don't ask me why I just don't) or had boogers or paint or play-doh stuck in it. We talked about it and he wasn't that bothered so he and his Daddy got matching haircuts on NBH's birthday.

The stylists couldn't believe how still he sat for almost 30 minutes and gave him a special certificate to say what a good boy he was. My inspiration for his hair was David Beckham's haircut---yes I know Blondie Boy is only three but I wanted him to have a cool haircut. You could also just say it's a longer version of his Dad's haircut. I haven't really played with it yet but I think he could probably rock a pretty sweet faux-hawk.

After the haircuts we had two birthday dinners, one on Friday with NBH's Dad and his wife and another on Saturday with NBH's Mum and her husband. Both dinners were super yummy (I ate far too much) and we finished both meals off with the aforementioned cake. On Saturday after dinner NBH and I went to a charity concert one of his friend's from work was throwing so I wanted to make sure I had on comfy shoes. I was really struggling with something that would work and I'm not 100% with what I came up with if I'm honest.

I think part of the reason I couldn't find something I liked to wear was that I'm not happy with my body right now. I've put on a ridiculous amount of weight (I've been on the scale so trust me) and things are fitting the way they should and honestly it isn't healthy. I loved my eye-makeup (thanks Pinterest!) and my hair but I'm not comfortable in my own skin right now.

I've lost weight before and I'm angry at myself that I've gotten this heavy again. I could blame it on a number of changes and frankly shitty things going on right now but that's not fair. So I've started SlimFast; it isn't something I've tried before but a 2 weeks supply was on sale at Costco and it seemed like an easy way to try and get my butt in gear. It isn't a long term solution but hopefully it is a way to start losing some weight and motivate me to start exercising, eat better and keep losing weight until I'm happy with myself.

Has anyone done SlimFast before? Any tips or tricks?

I'm in a similar position right now with my weight. It wouldn't be so bad if I had endless amounts of money to buy clothes in every size, but since I don't it feels crappy to put something on that doesn't fit. I need to start working out and eating healthy again! Anyway, I still think you look absolutely beautiful! Happy birthday to your husband!

Happy Birthday to your husband! They both look fresh and good looking with their hair cut. I do think the little handsome guy looks better with his new hair. :) Every time I see you wear that sequined top, I really regret not buying the one I really liked. Now it's not available anymore. lol! I don't know anything about SlimFast but I can't wait to see results if you ever share it here.

Both the man and boy in your life look dapper with their new haircuts.

I've never tried Slimfast but when I start gaining, I cut out packaged foods and eat natural, whole foods. Basically the entire produce section, but it seems to work! All the added salt and fat in convenience foods is hidden and you never know what you're really getting. You look great regardless of how you feel. Love the sparkles!

When my son was younger, I wanted him to wear it longer since it had such great waves in his hair but my hubby was dead set against it. Every time my son gets a hair cut, he looks just a bit older. They grow up way too fast.

I feel your pain about weight. I had worked really hard and lost 10 pounds and let the holidays get to me and put it all back on and then some. I am doing my best to try and lose it again. I am sure it's not healthy for my body to keep doing this.

I have not tried any type of diet drinks - I love to eat too much (hence my problem). But good luck!

I love BB's hair - i always think it makes them look so grown up when they get it cut.

I have tried slimfast a few times (or a cheaper alternate - i liked Tesco's own version) , i normally use it as a "starting point" and follow it for a few weeks to drop some weight and get use to eating less then starting eating "normal" again (but healthy) . It only managed to stick to it once and did loose a few stone.

ooh, like the sequined tank! and your little guy looks so sweet :)

I've never done Slimfast, but in terms of workouts I've always found yoga and barre to get results pretty fast. Most important thing is that you feel comfortable in who you are, and healthy - never mind what size you end up being in the end :) All the best!

Happy Birthday to your hubby. Both men look very handsome with their new haircuts.

I've never tried any diet plan, just knowing that I'm trying to diet has always pushed me to eat more. I did just buy a vita mixer and I'm going to try to have a green smoothie once a day as a meal replacement to see if that can spark some movement on the scale. Good luck on SlimFast!

His hair was so cute, but I can see how a 3 year old with long hair is just not practical. It's never too early to start teaching him how to groom himself and get a good haircut. Good luck on losing weight. I've found the only thing that works for me is actually going to the gym, but my mom lost a ton of weight years ago on Slim Fast.

Your glitter tank is super cute. So is your boys hair cut! Reminds me that mine are so overdue for a trim.

Thanks! The haircut has been a long time coming....

I totally need to start exercising but I need to lose some weight first to motivate me to keep up with it if that makes sense?

Melaina25 said...

Thank you; I've been starving these past few days but I think it's mostly psychosomatic

Thanks Katie! I brought back a yoga mat from the US so I need to get back in to it.

That is my plan--use it to break my bad habits, kick-start weight loss and motivate me to work out!

Melaina25 said...

I love to eat too! I've just gotten in to some really bad habits and I feel like I need to do this to break them and to motivate me to exercise so I can eat yummy again :)

I've seen some copy-cat tops out there still; I like it because it is dressed up without being stuffy iykwim.

Melaina25 said...

Thanks Niki; I'm the same except I have jeans in every size already and I don't want to go back up to the next biggest size which is where I am heading :-/

Thanks for hosting the link up again. I love checking out the familiar ones that come back every week, and the new ones, so fun! Good luck with the weight loss journey, get your body moving... a quick 30 min walk makes all the difference ( not only by losing weight, but it clears my head. I love that time for myself! ). Have a fantastic day! www.pixseestyle.com

I am always amazed when my little guy gets a haircut, it mKes such a huge difference. Your little guy looks so cute! I also can't blame you for taking in a photo of how you wanted it to look. We need to do that!

Wow Blonde Boys looks great, cool idea as a birthday gift! Please, this weight thing is getting to me too - just did a post on the Menopause 20 that I've gained, and am bound and determined to take off. I've used SlimFast in the past and it's good as a meal supplement but really doesn't help with weight loss, unless it's paired with intense exercise which I hate!

Melaina25 said...

OMG you actually did it, you had BB's hair cut. He looks so different and grown up now. It suits him really, really well x

Melaina25 said...

Such a cutie! Thanks for hosting the link up!

Melaina25 said...

Awww his new haircut looks great! Does he feel like a grown up now he has hair like his Daddy? I know it's easier said than done, but try not to stress out about putting on weight. The last few weeks have been crazy for you with going back and forth to American and getting your paperwork. You look gorgeous, and as usual I have total hair envy. When my hair was that long I could never style it like that.

I love the haircut!! He is so handsome. Great sequin top, love the look and black is always fashionable. Thanks for letting me link up!

Melaina25 said...

Thanks--he looks so different!

Melaina25 said...

Ugh I hate exercise but I'm hoping if SlimFast jump starts weight loss then I will exercise to keep it up.

Melaina25 said...

Thanks he looks so different!

Thanks Harmony thanks for linking up!

Thanks Tabby. I'm seriously in such a funk; the hair was just hot rollers rolled up to shoulder length, hair-sprayed to hell and finger combed out. If you only knew all the other shite that has been going on I've got plenty excuses for putting on weight but the scales are scary!

Thanks Chelsea--he looks so different!
