What I Wore Wednesdays: Pattern Mixing and Boots

I can remember a time that I would never even consider pattern mixing but since starting What I Wore Wednesday over a year ago I've been trying all sorts of new outfit combinations. I love finding new outfit inspirations and trying things that are out of my comfort zone. I really hope that y'all feel the same way and are finding new trends and making new fashion friends. Oy that sounded corny but you know what I mean!

Anyway here I am mixing three different patterns in one outfit or, if you count the studded bag as well, four! I never would have done even a year ago!  I've had this sparkly striped sweater since before Blondie Boy was born but I've had my flowered Docs since 1995! Talk about shopping in your own closet :)

I'd attempted to curl my hair before the meeting but it just looked a hot mess so I ended up clipping it back. I'm not a fan of my hair pulled back but what are you going to do. If I asked Blondie Boy how I'd look he'd say "as cool as a cucumber" but that is his general rebuke when you tell him anything is a hot mess :)

I've been dying for a studded bag ever since I feel into lust with Karen's RomyGold Drew Hobo on SMASH last season but since I don't have an extra $500 kicking about I've been looking for a more affordable option. It's not exactly what I wanted but I can fit my iPad in it for meetings and it's inexpensive enough that I don't have to worry about ruining it. Can anyone tell me what the deal is with the extra, non-detachable, long strap though? I've seen it on a lot of bags this season and I just don't get it!

I do love my flowered Docs and I'm trying to find the best way to wear them; back in the day I wore them literally with everything but I feel that when you are 15 you can get away with that but not so much now. Since they are broken in to the extreme they are super comfy so I do want to wear them more often.

The weather in Glasgow has been awful so we've all been rocking boots lately. Even NBH has gotten his own pair of guy's boots from Debenhams and Blondie Boy has sheepskin style boots of his own. It's nice to keep your feet dry and stylish!

NBH had been struggling and really only had either gym shoes or dress shoes so his new boots are a fab inbetween option when he wants to wear something nicer than gym shoes but not shoes he'd wear with a suit. Debenhams actually had a huge range of men's boots on sale so he was spoiled for choice but ended up with these brown leather ankle boots from Red Herring. How cute does BB's tiny boots look next to his Dad's giant boots? Hopefully we'll get a chance to all go out and rock our boots together soon!

MAD Blog Awards

The MAD Blog Awards are open for nominations again; I won't tell you what to do but if you read my ramblings and feel so inclined you are more than welcome to nominate my blog! If you don't want to no biggie but if you do just enter http://transatlanticblonde.blogspot.com in whatever category you see fit! Nominations close February 18th.

Transatlantic Blonde was provided NBH's boots for the purpose of review but he chose them himself. Have you ever tried to get your husband to wear something he didn't want to? All opinions are our own.

What I Wore Wednesday: London Calling

blonde pink cartoon
I left to go down south for work on Thursday and didn't get back home until Sunday night and then Monday was my birthday. It was all a bit of a whirlwind but I had such a great weekend. The lovely Lizzie from Mummy in Manolos took me out for birthday dinner and drinks in Marlow Thursday night and look at this AMAZING drawing she did of me for my birthday!

I LOVE it! Check how I'm taking a photo of myself with my iPhone and of course I'm wearing pink-- when I'm back from holiday I suspect there will be a new WIWW button!

We had such a great time chatting away and having the most amazing dinner at La Cantina Del Vino which so authentically Italian most of the waiters didn't really speak English!  My lobster linguine was to die for and I have no idea what wine we ordered but it was delicious :)

The next morning I grabbed the train to Paddington station, grabbed a Krispy Kreme and took the tube into London. I stayed at my favourite hotel, The Andaz Liverpool Street, which is smack dab in the centre of EC1 and feels absolutely luxurious but won't  cost you more than any other hotel in the area.

That afternoon I had a lunch, cocktails with my girls Siân and Claire and an awards ceremony in the evening. I wanted something that could translate across all the events so I went with a floaty dress and a blazer with my favourite leopard heels.

Saturday was a conference so again I wanted to look nice but I also wanted to be comfortable since I knew it would be a long day. Luckily I struck gold, again, with another Cynthia Rowley dress from TK Maxx. The dress fits me perfectly and shows off my best best while masking my not so great bits. I paired it with my wedding shoes, yes I had purple wedding shoes, but threw flip-flops in my bag for the end of the day when I knew my feet would have had enough.

Don't Siân and Claire look super cute, too? We spent a lot of time chilling in the TK Maxx style lounge where you could try on clothes, relax on super comfy Home Sense chairs and chaises or get style advice on what clothes suit your body shape best. We also took a liking to Visit Orlando and Acer UK's photobooths but I can't say the booths liked us. Siân and I had one shut down and power off when we were in it and then the three of us almost knocked over another.  Needless to say we had a lot of fun in them!

The three of us talk on Skype all the time but it is rare we are actually in the same place together so it was great to hang out in person.  They also got me some AMAZING Doc Marten Darcie boots and a kick ass new skull scarf for my birthday that I am sure will feature in a future What I Wore Wednesday.

On my actual birthday NotBlondeHusband spoiled me rotten by taking me out to an overly indulgent dinner at Blytheswood Square Hotel in Glasgow and since I loved it so much I wore my Blue and Purple Cynthia Rowley dress again. It was actually sunny on my birthday so we got to have cocktails outside in the sunshine before devouring a truly amazing meal. If you are looking for the best steak in Glasgow the Blytheswood is the place to go!

I'm so lucky to have such amazing friends and family! Tomorrow NBH, Blondie Boy and I are off on holiday to France courtesy of Eurocamp and I can't wait to tell y'all about it when we get back! I will try my best to get a French WIWW edition up next week but I hope you'll forgive me if it is a wee bit delayed. Fingers crossed we have nice weather and this sneezing fit I'm having is just allergies and not a cold!

Our accommodation while on holiday is provided by Eurocamp but all travel and other expenses we will and have paid ourselves. All opinions on our holiday are our own and will be expressed as such.

What I Wore Wednesday: Cybher

This past weekend I was honoured to be part of the amazing team that put on Cybher, the first all inclusive female blogger event of its kind in the UK. It was a hectic few days but it was an amazing day and I'm really happy with how my two sessions--I ended up running a feminist panel in addition to my Apps presentations--went. The vibe on the day was so positive, inspiring and uplifting and since I am the one reading the evaluation results I know I was not alone in feeling that way :)

So here is what I wore to the most stylish blogger event of the year:

Grey Dress- Cynthia Rowley
Black Cropped Blazer- HM
CybherUK necklace- My Name Necklace
Silver and Pink Fiji Bracelet- Monica Vinader
Black Hoop Earrings-Walmart
Patent Leather Black Dr Martens Heels
Platinum Black Nails-Sally Hansen

What didn't I tell you I'm the new Edie? What do you mean Desperate Housewives is cancelled? Aw crap.  Don't worry I'm not delusional, well not totally; one of the stands had this super cool green screen where you could whisk yourself to Wisteria Lane. Pretty cool right?

In the end I didn't end up wearing my skull bracelet because my good friend, and Cybher founder, Siân gave the team these amazing Fiji Friendship bracelets--in Cybher her pink natch. Since I'd been sick the week before I didn't think I could wear heels all day so Siân loaned me her kick ass Doc boots, too.

I found this Cynthia Rowley dress at TK Maxx the day before I got sick and really loved it. It has pockets (something I really love in a dress right now) and you can't tell but a really cute zipper up the back which at least in the UK is bang on trend. It was more than comfortable to run around in all day and I think it looked professional yet stylish.

I have to give a big shout out to my Apps co-presenter Biba who was didn't just do an amazing job for a 10 year old but did an amazing job full stop. Huge thanks to Cat and Lori for stepping in last minute to sit on the feminist panel with me and MASSIVE congratulations to the rest of the team Claire, Erica and of course the maven behind the madness Siân. Thank you for believing in me and believing in Cybher.
