What I Wore Wednesday: Fourth Anniversary

I'd planned to have a lovely recap of our anniversary dinner but well I got food poisoning. What started out as a really lovely evening turned into an absolutely horrible evening, night, early morning. So here are the photos I took before I puked my guts out.

I thought it was appropriate to wear my wedding shoes on my anniversary! I got this dress for NotBlondeHusband's father's wedding way back in 2009 but it worked really well since it was a really warm evening. Luckily for me I had flip flops in my purse so when I started to feel queasy I was able to lose my heels. It is a shame our night ended so gross but luckily Blondie Boy's Grandma has volunteered to take him another night so we can have a make-up anniversary another night.

What I Wore Wednesday: Weddings

This past weekend NotBlondeHusband and I went to the evening reception for his cousin's wedding. Shock of all shocks--I wore a Cynthia Rowley dress--if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Please ignore the giant bruise on my knee, at least it matched my dress right? I changed it up a little bit and wore an oversized purple flower corsage on my jacket and painted my toenails teal to match the dress. I love how versitle the dress is that I can wear it to work or a wedding but it would be pretty boring to show you the same dress you've seen a gazillion times over again.

Today is NotBlondeHusband and my fourth wedding anniversary. We met 9 years ago this month, have lived together over 8 years and were married 4 years ago today. We both put up with each other's bullshit and I genuinely can't think of anyone else more perfect for me. We've had our ups and downs but after 9 years who hasn't?

I could say lots of things about our anniversary but instead I'm going to let the photos do the talking. I hope you don't mind my What I Wore Wednesday is a flashback but I thought it was pretty appropriate. You've already seen my purple wedding shoes but here is the rest of what I wore at my wedding. It is a bit picture heavy but it's my anniversary I think I can get away with it! All of the images below are property of White Photography in Cincinnati, Ohio.

A girl walks into a bar with her Mom...

Eight years ago today I met NotBlondeHusband. People often ask how we met, how I became and expat so for those who don't already know here, in all it's glory, is how we met. It's much better told in person with my Mom butting in every two seconds to give her version but this will have to suffice.

I was interning in Washington DC at Choice USA in the summer of 2003 when my Mom and sister came to visit for a weekend.  One night my Mom and I went out for a drink and decided to go to Georgetown, but my Mom didn't want to walk far because she had on high heels, so we went to what I thought was the first "acceptable" bar on M Street, Garrett's. Anyone who's lived in NW DC will know what I'm talking about; there are bars before full of old coke heads and after Garrett's M Street begins to incline steeply so not ideal for hoofing it in heels.

When we walked in I noticed a cute guy and two friends sitting at the bar, normally I'd have headed to the upstairs bar, but I sat downstairs instead. I went to sit next to said guy, but my Mom insisted she didn't want to sit on the corner and plopped down next to the hottie in a Barcelona strip.

Not one to be deterred, after striking up conversation about their gold Elvis sunglasses (no matter how much my Mom tries to tell you she picked them up) NotBlondeHusband, the cute guy, and I got to talking and when my Mom went to the bathroom I took her seat next to him. Several Jaeger shots, discussions of hetero-life mates and ditching of my Mom and my friend I'd called in for back up later and I was hooked.

He was over on vacation with his two friends and for the remaining 4 days of his trip we spent every day together hanging out and getting to know each other. That's the good thing about working in a small female only office; when true love snogs you while your Mom's back is turned they let you have a few days off.

We visited back and forth across the Atlantic for 9 months and then NotBlondeHusband moved to live with me in DC for the summer of 2004 and that September I moved over to Glasgow with him.

I remember being really upset when he left and one of the Directors at my office said "you are going to marry him and have beautiful babies one day." Now this was a feminist organization so she wasn't just babbling. That being said I don't think I knew just then just how right she was.

3 Years Of Wedded This, I Mean Bliss :)

But long as there are stars above you
You never need to doubt it
I'll make you so sure about it
God only knows what I'd be without you

1st Anniversary Weekend

NBH and I had a great anniversary weekend.

He made me a bouquet of origami tulips, since the traditional 1st anniversary present is paper. He also got me vouchers for cooking classes at Braehead foods, which I am super excited about!
I got him tickets to see Brian Wilson (from the Beach Boys) at the Royal Concert Hall in September. NBH keeps missing his shows and this will be his first time seeing him; it's also a Greatest Hits show, so should be good!

We had a free night at the hotel we held our Scottish reception at as well as dinner and breakfast. We assumed we'd have to choose from a set menu, but we got to have ANYTHING off the menu for free! Here's what we had:

Starters

B: Pan Fried Loch Fyne Scallops
French Black Pudding, Pancetta and Olive Mash

NBH: Warm Tuna Salad
Served with Potatoes, Cherry Tomatoes, Black Olives & French Beans

Main Course

B: 8oz Fillet
Specially selected, quality aged, Scottish Beef from West-Greenland Farm,Castletan, Thurso. Seasoned and cooked to your liking with Grilled Plum Tomato and Chunky Hand Cut Fries
Tender cut from the Tenderloin that will melt in your mouth

NBH: Pan Seared Fillet of Seabass
Pureed Peas, Fennel & Potato Salad

Side Order of Pomme Dauphinoise

Dessert

B: Apple Crepe
Cinnamon Ice Cream

NBH: Trio of Brûlée
Lemon, Orange, Vanilla Bean

We thought we'd have to pay for NBH's wine, but they comped that too! We also got 4 drinks vouchers with check-in. All and all it was a very decadent and lovely night!
