What I Wore Wednesday: Drag Super Star

So here's the thing. I love drag queens. LOVE drag queens. I actually wish I could be a drag queen (anyone out there want to be drag mama to a faux queen?) ala the movie Connie and Carla minus the whole running away from murders bit and a bit more fierce. That being said I've never been to a drag show in Glasgow; I'm not sure how I saw that Raja, the winner of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 3, was coming to Glasgow but oh honey the second I found out I KNEW I was going and somehow I luckily convinced Steph to go with me.

We decided to go ALL out and splashed out on the VIP tickets so we would also get to meet Raja and get our photo taken with her plus a champagne reception. I say splash out but seriously y'all it was less than a single concert ticket costs these days so it was actually a bargain!

I'd never been to the club the show was in before but friends told me it was an anything goes, OTT type place so in my mind that meant glitter and sequins needed to be on the agenda. I also took it as an excuse to break out all my make-up and hair styling tools that I don't normally have occasion to use.

You know I had to break out the cat ears Liz got me again; I honestly need more events in my life where I can wear headpieces! I didn't realize until afterwards but I wore the same outfit I wore when I went out for Julie's 30th earlier this year!

I bought hair chalk last year in Ohio and this is the fist time I've gone out with it. I'm kinda in love with my candy-coloured my little pony hair. As much as I love skulls and spikes I also love pink and purple so it was such fun to have a trial with dip-dye hair. Now I have to decide if I could take the plunge to have it full time.

Raja's performance was just amazing and it was so great to see her and get the chance to briefly meet her. It was also just fun to get out and do something I've not done in a long time, too. Could I come home at 4am every weekend? Oh hell no but once in a while for a special event I think I can handle it.

What I Wore Wednesday: Asymmetric Studs, Spikes & Leopard

This Friday was my friend Julie's 30th birthday! Julie, who I went to see Guns N Roses with this summer, and I met when we were both waitresses at a now defunct restaurant and bar called Frankenstein's in Glasgow. It was a bit of a random place and we seriously had a GIANT Frankie monster that came out of the ceiling and sat up when we hit a button---I shit you not. Despite being random it was a fun place to work. I'm so glad Julie and I reconnected through Facebook and was super excited to help her celebrate her 30th!

We ended up at McPhabb's for £10 Prosecco (who could say no?) and some birthday shots! I honestly could not tell you the last time I had a shot so I stuck to one; I used to be the shot queen but not so much! We had a really lovely time chatting and Julie got a wee birthday cupcake from the staff, too!

I met up with NotBlondeHusband when he finished work instead of moving on to the next club so we could pick up Blondie Boy from my friend Jef's and head home. Even though it was a low key it was a great night and a psychic has told Julie she has to go to Amsterdam this year so we'll be looking for cheap flights to celebrate again!

I randomly went into River Island to shop for something to wear; it isn't somewhere I'd shopped before but they had a massive sale sign up and I figured what the heck. I ended up with this asymmetric black studded top with a external zipper back; it is actually meant to be quite baggy, but it is a size UK 8 which is a size I never even wore at my skinniest. I think it looks way cute fitted though so works for me AND it was only £10!

That is literally the best picture I have of my outfit. Yikes. You can't even tell I'm wearing my Booty Up HYH Pants (which I forgot how much I love) or anything else for that matter! So I've made a Polyvore again to hopefully show in a smidge more detail what I wore since somehow there is a halo in my photo. Is it a halo or a ghost or an aura? I have no idea but it's annoying. I was once told I had a yellow-white aura (so I could be a natural witch if I wanted to be) so maybe it is the latter. Anyway as always I digress!

What I Wore Wednesday: GFBW Fashion Show

Last Thursday I attend the Glasgow for Business Week Fashion Show at Prince's Square and it was amazing. There is so much fashion talent in Scotland and it was really showcased on the catwalk. Some of the designers I knew but a lot of them were new to me. If you follow me on Instagram you'll know I did my best to tweet photos but damn is it hard to take a photo of a moving model! So here are my best shots:

William Chambers Millinery

William was "Accessory Designer of the Year" at the Scottish Fashion Awards and makes the most amazing hats and headpieces.

Rebecca Torres

Rebecca makes gorgeous colour blocked body con dresses. You might recognize her dresses as one of the "Basketball Wives" wore it on their reunion show.

Stunning Vintage inspired Hand-finished Lingerie

I knew them for their amazing custom acrylic knuckle dusters but now I'm coveting their edgy but feminine women's wear.

Iona's prints were earth and ethereal and oh so Scottish.

There were also gorgeous dresses by Marc Ross (I wish I'd gotten better photos of the ultimate LBD), amazing coats with just the tiniest hint of sparkle by Lyndsey McNeil, impressive knits by Di Gilpin and many more. One of my favourite was Euan McWhirter's couture jewellery collection. Euan was kind enough to send me these photos from his collection: 

I love his chunky and colourful pieces and how freaking amazing is that punk Victorian cuff? I'm a sucker for anything that sparkles and has studs---stunning! Euan also does bespoke fine jewellery that is drop dead gorgeous  I have two words for you- OCTOPUS RING. Click the link because honestly words don't do it justice.

I showed up to the show knowing no one and the lovely Mairi McDonald, who's a women's wear designer herself and a trendspotter for The Herald, was so nice and let me sit with her during the show. It was a bit unnerving showing up and knowing no one but everyone was so lovely. I had great time and wound up heading for drinks afterwards with Euan and William who were both so inviting and fun. Also some how we ended up drinking with a guy who was in Braveheart and Wanted so that is me one degree closer to Mel Gibson and Angelina Jolie apparently!

So what did I wear. I ended up wearing the first outfit that popped into my head when I heard I got offered tickets to attend. You see in life sometimes you have to go big or go home and I thought if I couldn't go over the top at a fashion show when could I? So after almost a year I finally wore my amazing Versace for HM fur vest:

It is not something I'd wear every day obviously but OMG did I love wearing it. I tend to lean towards the edgy side so the studs and fur all just gave me some crazy confidence. Also I'm not obsessed with Model's Own Glitter Top Coat especially over black. I took it off this weekend but am contemplating putting it back on already.

I went for a smoky eye (when do I not?) and rocked a red lip. I'm normally not a red lip kinda girl but is really growing on me. Of course it doesn't hurt that Mairi said I was channelling Gwen Stefani who's style I've coveted since her dip-dyed Galliano wedding gown. Anyway I digress; it was really hard to get a good photo of the outfit so I've put together the outfit on Polyvore too.

I was so inspired by these amazing Scottish designers and hopefully I'll be able to attend many more Scottish fashion events. It was a great night and thanks so much to Glasgow for Business Week for having me attend! Please ignore the giant bruise on my knee, at least it matched my dress right? I changed it up a little bit and wore an oversized purple flower corsage on my jacket and painted my toenails teal to match the dress. I love how versitle the dress is that I can wear it to work or a wedding but it would be pretty boring to show you the same dress you've seen a gazillion times over again. 

Today is NotBlondeHusband and my fourth wedding anniversary. We met 9 years ago this month, have lived together over 8 years and were married 4 years ago today. We both put up with each other's bullshit and I genuinely can't think of anyone else more perfect for me. We've had our ups and downs but after 9 years who hasn't?

I could say lots of things about our anniversary but instead I'm going to let the photos do the talking. I hope you don't mind my What I Wore Wednesday is a flashback but I thought it was pretty appropriate. You've already seen my purple wedding shoes but here is the rest of what I wore at my wedding. What I Wore Wednesday: Valentine's Day Date Night

For Valentine's Day NotBlondeHusband and I went to see opening night of Zack Braff's new play "All New People" at the Kings Theatre here in Glasgow. Blondie Boy's Auntie Jefy very kindly came to watch him so we could take in the show and a cheeky meal afterwards.

We had amazing seats (front row, grand circle) and while at times I felt the play was trying a bit too hard we both enjoyed it. I love going to the theatre and hadn't been in ages. We grabbed dinner at Bath Street Pony after the show and all in all I'd say it was a great Valentine's Day.  Did you see what NBH got me? Yea awesome Valentine's Day.

So I decided to wear an outfit combining some of my favourite trends from the outfits y'all link up each week: leggings, blazers and leopard print. The leggings are amazing shapewear from Hold Your Haunches that utilize medical grade compression under super stylish leggings. 

As someone with a c-section tummy I love these pants; it noticeably minimized my middle and smoothed out that dreaded c-section overhang. NBH said my butt looked higher too; I don't check out my own ass so I will take his word for it!

I finally used my Versace for HM bag! I have no idea why one leg looks shorter than the other; I think NBH needs to let me look at pictures after he takes them next time! 

I originally bought a black and white polka dot top to wear but I thought it felt to business-like so I went with the low cut, ruffle top instead. I was super comfortable and hopefully super cute, too!

What I Wore Wednesday: Versace is Business Appropriate Right?

Last Friday I helped throw a blogger and brand event for one of my clients. I wanted to look professional but not too stuffy so I opted for my Versace for HM skirt and paired it with leggings to make it less formal. Please note this photo was taken at home once I finally got back from the airport at the end of a 13 hour day so please excuse the flat hair and tired look!

I also had to take a picture of my Rabbi's Daughters travel bag. My Mom got is for me and I LOVE it. Not only is it covered in Yiddish words but it is the perfect size for an overnight trip; holds everything I need and fits under the seat on the plane. Please note this added bit of genius I've never seen before: that zip? It is for a pocket inside the bag that holds all your liquids and toiletries. So not only are my liquids easy to access at security but if they spill they don't get all over my clothes! Brilliant!

Apologies if I'm sounding like a wackadoo here but when you fly semi-regularly for business a fashionable and functional carry on bag is quite possibly the best thing ever. Seriously I plotzed.

What I Wore Wednesday: Versace for HM

Last Thursday I was lucky enough to win a Twitter competition and skip the queue for the unveiling of the new Versace for H and M collection! (ed note: I know it is not H and M, but I can't get an ampersand to work for some reason!) I got to go in early and shop before anyone else hit the store. The same rules still applied: I could only shop for 10 minutes and only one of each item.  

I went in with only two items in mind and came out with five items from the Versace collection. I had planned a fashion show for y'all but well life took over so lucky for me Polyvore stepped in! So here is how I *would* have worn them if I actually got chance!
