What I Wore Wednesday: Homemade Robot Costume

Things have been so busy between work, launching Lassies Who Lunch and getting ready for Halloween that I totally spaced on What I Wore Wednesday last week---oops! I did get a post up about our amazing trip to France, including vlogs from the cutest little vlogger ever--Blondie Boy! I love Halloween and this was the first time in two years we were home in Scotland and not in the USA.

I'm not a fan of the Pinterest inspired competition to be the best Mom ever but personally I think that birthday cakes and Halloween costumes should always be home made. Nothing I make is ever going to look professional but I don't care. Unless there are circumstances beyond my control Blondie Boy is always getting a home made costume

This year he decided he wanted to be a dancing robot. So I bought some chrome effect spray paint, diamanté, buttons, sparkly leggings and flexible silver ducting and went to town. We already had some rain boots that a friend had given us as hand-me-downs so those got spray-painted, too. I finished it off with some white hairspray (couldn't find silver) and some loose silver make-up glitter and CR3 The Dancing Robot was born!

He also requested robot fingernails so who am I to say no when I own holographic silver polish already :) I think his costume came out really cute and he definitely stood out from the other kids. All of my costumes growing up were home made so I'm glad to carry on the tradition.

For work that day I had on cat ears and some drawn on whiskers (only my team dressed up at work and there were no full-on costumes) but I wanted something a bit more fun for trick or treating with Blondie Boy. Normally I try to match my costume to his but after getting him ready I only had ten minutes to sort myself. So I decided to take a risk and made myself a Dia de Los Muertos sugar skull type look.

The gems were a bit big and it wasn't as elaborate or colourful as I would have liked but not bad for ten minutes! It kind of makes me want to go to the tanning bed though as I definitely don't suit being super pale. We had a fun time visiting houses but it definitely is not the same as being home in Ohio.

I much prefer specified trick or treating times and knowing that if a light is on you know that it is okay to knock. Here I was hesitant to take BB up to a door unless they had a pumpkin out or I'd seen bigger kids go up already. That being said Halloween is much bigger than it was when I first moved here. Hopefully next year though we can be back in Ohio!

Did you dress up for Halloween?

What I Wore Wednesday: 30/60th Birthday Party

Fair Isle Skulls

This past Friday was my Mother-in-Law's 60th and Sister-in-Law's 30th Birthday Party--they share a birthday, the day after Blondie Boy's (party was earlier to catch people home for holidays), so they shared a party, too! Blondie Boy's Auntie Jefy was nice enough to watch him so NotBlondeHusband and I could both attend since BB wouldn't be allowed in the pub after 8pm.

NBH wore the Fair Isle Skull Cardigan I got him for Christmas with some jeans but I didn't have as easy of a time picking out what I was going to wear. It was absolutely blowing a gale outside so a dress or skirt was out of the question.

At first I'd planned to wear my gold sequinned sweatshirt that I got over a year ago and still haven't worn but I wasn't 100% comfortable in it and then NBH said he liked a second top I tried on so I went with that.  The whole outfit was based around my new studded heels I got in the New Look sale for just £10!

Skull Gem Eyes Pendant

How cool is this silver skull necklace NBH got me for Christmas? It has Tanzanite eyes as well even though somehow they look really washed out in this photo they are a light blue shade of Tanzanite.

Metallic Spike Ring

I got this spiky ring in the New Look sale too for just £1. I wasn't sure about it but I figured for £1 I could take the risk and I LOVE it! It's a bit over the top and only fits on my pinky but it is one of my new favourites!

We had a great night celebrating both birthdays and I managed to make it through the whole night without taking off my shoes or stabbing anyone with my ring :) I'm sure lots of you will be linking up New Year's Eve outfits this week but NBH was working so while I did have a play around with chalking my hair no fancy outfit for me! What did you do for New Year's Eve? Do you prefer to go out or stay in?

What I Wore Wednesday: Eurovision, Sequins, Skulls and The Mad Blog Awards

This week I've been wearing military jackets and funny hats and representing Denmark in the Eurovision song competition and I made it to the finals!!! Okay I haven't but I've seriously been bombarded on Facebook and Twitter saying I look like the Danish Eurovision contestant--what do you think?
I do have Danish ancestry so I guess it isn't that big of a stretch. So I wasn't living it up in Azerbaijan at Eurovision semi-finals but I also wasn't really leaving the house in anything other than sweats. I had to play catch-up with work post-Cybher and NotBlondeHusband was out quite a lot so I really didn't leave the couch.

So I'm going to ask you all for help again. I've bought two tops from HM and not worn either of them because I'm not 100% sure how to style them.

I absolutely love the tops and with the weather getting warmer I'm running out of time to wear the sequinned top but also it isn't quite warm enough for just the skull tank top. How would you wear them?

Also a HUGE thank you to everyone who nominated me in The Mad Blog Awards because I am a finalist for best Fashion Blog! Thank you SO much! If you have a moment and you link up or like What I Wore Wednesday would you please vote for me?  I appreciate everyone's help!
MAD Blog Awards 2012
Voting is open until June 6th and can vote in as many or few categories as you like! So enough of me asking favours and on to the What I Wore Wednesday linky!
